Summer is finally here!  So, with that said, we must come up with tons of fun ways to entertain our children this season.

One of our favorite things to do is pack up the car, and head to the beach for a fun summer picnic and day together as a family. However, grabbing snacks, supplies, and treats can quickly break down your budget.

These ways to Save For The Perfect Summer Picnic using the great discounted items at Family Dollar are sure to help you stay in budget while providing your family with a fun summer picnic everyone will love.

Create Simple Summer Picnic Recipes With Pasta, Salad Dressing, and Fresh Vegetables. One of our favorite items to stock up on at our local Family Dollar Store has to be the low price pastas, salad dressings, and canned goods. We love throwing together a package of our favorite pasta, a bottle of Italian Salad Dressing, a can of black olives, and a diced fresh tomato for a simple and tasty pasta salad treat. All for under $5!

FDBlog-SPMPicnic1 Buy Usable Plastic Plates & Utensils. Instead of grabbing discounted paper plates, pick up a package of plastic plates, bowls, utensils, and even fun cups to pack each time you go for a summer picnic. While these cost a bit more up front, being able to bag them up after use, bring them home, and wash them to be used again will save you money in the long run. Plus, you are doing something great for the environment too!

Take Your Own Pool/Water Supplies. If you are planning on taking the kids for a picnic to a local lake, beach, or pool make sure to stock up on swimming pool games and toys. Many public pools and beaches will either have rentals or local dive shops you can buy these items in, but they almost always cost a lot more than you bargained for. So think ahead, and stop by your Family Dollar Store to grab floaties, rafts, swimming pool games for kids, and of course, beach towels at discounted prices so you can reuse these summer fun items for every trip to the pool.

FDBlog-SPMPicnic2 Plan For Fun Outdoor Games. Like playing horseshoes, hopscotch, or badminton? Pick up some inexpensive outdoor fun games for under $5 that will be great for this summer and many summers to come. Make sure to ask the kids what types of games they enjoy playing so you pack what you need. Quiet games, active games, and of course, water and pool games are all needed to create a fun activity before or after you enjoy your sandwiches, pasta salad, and Jell-O.

Don’t Forget Dessert. The best part of going for a picnic is eating all the fun food that Mom typically won’t let you eat at home. Whether that is a candy bar, cookies, or something for the campfire, like S’Mores, don’t forget to pack dessert! With tons of inexpensive options from pudding cups to Jell-O to cookies, when you shop at your local Family Dollar Store, you’ll be able to feed your family their favorites on a budget.
