Every month I have the daunting task of grocery shopping. Here’s the scenario….
I walk through the grocery store aimlessly with no clue on what I really want or actually need to prepare delicious meals for my family. I usually hit the snack isle first, then its on to the juices and anything that will satisfy my sweet tooth. Not actually the best way to start off a budget friendly or effective shopping experience! The most common mistake I find that many people make is not figuring out what the most important items to have in your food pantry and refrigerator should be. I like to refer to these items as “The Food Essentials“. Foods that you should stock in your cabinets that will help to make feeding your family easy and affordable. Here are some grocery ideas that will help you figure out if you are investing in the right food essentials at Family Dollar.
I’m taking you inside one of my favorite Family Dollar locations in Staten Island, NY to pick up a few must-have food essentials!
Weed out the “Time Wasters”
Waste not…want not! Don’t spend valuable time…or money on items that you and your family don’t use, want or need. First, figure out what your favorite foods are, then maximize your shopping by choosing the ones that are the most important from that list of favs. Start with items that you need everyday for cooking like butter, eggs, water and milk. All these products can last several days as well as stay within budget of less than $10 bucks! Savings Shout Out: A great way to save a few more bucks and get more for your money is to buy food essentials in bulk like water, snacks and fruit juice packs. Pick up Aquafina Water 24 pack for the Everyday Low Price of $5!
The Perfect Pantry Foods
Load up on foods for the pantry that are perfect for creating essential meals for breakfast, lunch and dinnertime! Hot and cold cereals like Cheerios, Raisin Bran or Oatmeal are great essential morning food fillers. Who says you can’t have breakfast for dinner?! Pancake mix can be a fun and filling dinner alternative that will store in your cabinet for months. Coffee, Orange Juice and Family Gourmet Ruby Kist Cranberry Juice are instant morning kick starters. Foodie Tip: Cranberry Juice is a great detoxing ingredient for fruit smoothies.
Spices, salad dressings and condiments are food items that are imperative to adding a little flavor to any meal. A few of my favorites are Family Gourmet %100 Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise and Prego Italian Sausage & Garlic Sauce. All these items can be purchased for a little under $15 bucks!
Snack time is just as important as any other meal in the day…or at least for me it is, LOL! When it’s time to satisfy the craving for something sweet, try these delicious options Jell-O No Bake Cheesecake Dessert, Family Gourmet Vanilla Creme Cookies or opt for a more healthier snack like Trail Mix or Popcorn. For the little ones, treat them to an old fashion food essential that we all grew up on, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. These and more goodies can be found in the snack isle of Family Dollar.
Finalize your Food Finds
Choosing the right foods can certainly be a challenge, but making sure the essentials are in your shopping cart is half the battle. Make sure you have your checklist marking off items as you fill your cart. Always put your absolute final choices by the cash register.
