Cold Weather Kids Crafts

The cold winter days have kept us cooped up inside for way too long! As a mom to three little ones, I’ve found that that setting aside time each day to craft can make the long winter days seem much shorter!

My favorite thing to do is to set up a little table or area right by a sunny window. There is nothing better than soaking up some Vitamin D while being creative!

This past week I was in desperate need of some new craft supplies, so I headed to Family Dollar to stock up. Their selection of products never ceases to amaze me! I purchased chenille stems (pipe cleaners), glitter glue, crayons, markers, watercolors and a big stack of white paper. The possibilities are endless with this great selection!

One particular morning we crafted with just the pipe cleaners. I showed the kids how to make glasses, heart garlands and flowers. We ended up “crafting” with the pipe cleaners for over an hour! Who would have thought that a dollar pack of pipe cleaners could be so fun!? :)

Another morning I gave each child a piece of white paper. I thought it would be fun for us to use different type mediums. I first let them use the glitter glue. They loved it!

We then switched out papers and glitter glue and moved on to using the water colors. After finishing their watercolor paintings, we switched to crayons; and then from crayons to markers. I’d say we spent almost an hour and a half using the different mediums!

The fun part about kids’ crafts is you don’t need to come up with an elaborate plan. Go to Family Dollar and stock up on some fun craft supplies. Then just let your kids have fun with them! White paper, markers, crayons, watercolors, glitter glue and pipe cleaners can provide hours of entertainment!

Happy Crafting!
