Candy Corn Rice Krispie Halloween Treats

Halloween treats don’t have to break the bank to put the “BOO” in your Halloween party.  This seasonal spin on classic Rice Krispie treats is easy, fun, and festive. Plus, all five ingredients can be found at most Family Dollar stores so you don’t have to run around gathering up the pieces of this “witches brew” and can focus on enjoying your party preparations instead.

Having a cookie cutter in the shape of a witch’s hat helps, but you can also cut the shapes with a paring knife.  Or, have fun making these with other Halloween cookie cutters you may have on hand.

Ingredients for treats:

1 pkg. candy corn, coarsely chopped (save a few pieces for decorating hats)
1 10 oz. pkg. mini-marshmallows (save a few pieces for decorating hats)
6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
3 TB butter

Ingredients for icing and decorations:

½ cup chocolate chips
1 TB butter
a few mini-marshmallows and candy corn pieces

Step One: Coat 9X13 pan with cooking spray or butter.  Melt 3 TB butter in large saucepan.  Reserving about a dozen mini-marshmallows for later, put marshmallows in pan and stir over low heat until melted and smooth.

Step Two: Remove pan from heat.  Add in chopped candy corn and Rice Krispies and stir until completely coated.  Using a rubber spatula coated in cooking spray or butter helps.

Step Three:  Transfer to a 9X13 pan and cover with waxed paper.  Pat down until smooth.  Kids love to help with this part!

Step Four: Cut out shapes using a witch’s hat cookie cutter.  If you don’t have a cookie cutter, trace the shape of a witch’s hat onto paper and use it as a stencil to carefully cut out treats with a knife.

Step Five:  Melt 1TB of butter in a microwave safe mug in the microwave.  Add in ½ c. chocolate chips, and heat in 15 second intervals until melted, stirring each time.  Use melted chocolate to frost krispie treats.  Use pieces of mini-marshmallows and candy corn to make the hat’s brim.  Aren’t they adorable?

Hint: Don’t throw the “scraps” from cutting the treats away!  Roll them into balls, and use a dab of chocolate on the end of a lollipop stick inserted halfway through to make Candy Corn Rice Krispie pops.  An extra bit of YUM for your party guests to enjoy.

See those pieces of candy corn?  They are melt-in-your-mouth delicious. These treats will be a huge hit at your next Halloween party.  Dress ‘em up by adding cheesecloth and pumpkins to your table for a spooky Halloween tablescape.  These easy party treats are sure to be a huge hit that all your little ghosts and goblins will enjoy!
